Description
A Rare hunting knife, blued and gilded, Russian Empire, Zlatoust, 19th century. This exceptional hunting knife, a notable specimen of 19th-century Russian craftsmanship from the Zlatoust Arms Factory, represents the refined luxury weaponry produced for the imperial aristocracy during the peak of the Ural metallurgical tradition. The steel blade is elaborately decorated at the forte with intricate etching and fire-gilding, showcasing a traditional hunting tableau with hounds and prey set within a framework of neoclassical foliate scrolls and geometric borders. The hilt consists of a finely carved bone grip with a smooth patina and characteristic grain, ergonomically shaped and secured by a discreetly decorated gilded ferrule. The weapon is housed in its original wood-core scabbard upholstered in emerald green velvet and fittings. These darkened steel components are exquisitely ornamented with gold-inlaid arabesques and floral motifs that mirror the blade's aesthetic, while the locket retains its original suspension ring for traditional carriage. Measuring approximately 44 cm in total length, this piece exemplifies the "Zlatoust style" which harmoniously combined sophisticated metallurgical techniques with the high decorative arts of the Russian Empire. The item is in good condition.
