Description
A Rare Hijaz and Asir Arabian Dharia Dagger with Leather Scabbard, 19th century. This exceptional example of a dharia, a variation of the traditional jambiya dagger, originates from the Hijaz and Asir regions of the Arabian Peninsula, representing a significant artifact of 19th-century Saudi martial culture. The weapon features a characteristic long, slender, double-edged curved steel blade, which is embellished with a central fuller containing etched geometric scrollwork and traditional motifs. The hilt is masterfully constructed from carved dark horn, likely bovine, and is further elevated by intricate silver filigree work, granulation, and high-relief silver mounts that exhibit the refined craftsmanship of regional silversmiths. Accompanying the dagger is its original leather-covered wooden scabbard, which displays hand-stitched details and is accented with white decorative inlays or rivets that complement the overall aesthetic of the piece. The blade shows evidence of professional forging techniques common to the nomadic and urban centers of western Arabia, with the entire assembly measuring an impressive 63 cm in length. The item is in good condition.
