This exceptional 19th-century Indian dagger stands as a superb example of the decorative weaponry, reflecting the refined metallurgical traditions of the subcontinent. The hilt is meticulously crafted from metal and features a grip decorated with delicate silver floral inlays that cover the surface in a dense, traditional foliate pattern. At the terminal, the pommel is fashioned into a majestic, snarling tiger’s head, - an iconic symbol of power and military prowess in Indian iconography, which has been richly gilded and further enhanced with detailed ribbed inlays to accentuate its anatomical features. The double-edged steel blade is elegantly proportioned with a graceful recurve, typical of elite sidearms of the period. The base is decorated with a golden koftgari.
