A Pair of French Percussion Pistols with Two Superposed Barrels, by Prebat, Paris, circa 1855. Presenting an exceptional pair of French mid-nineteenth-century, percussion pistols with two superposed barrels, embodying the sophisticated craftsmanship characteristic of high-end Parisian gunsmithing. Each pistol features expertly micro-rifled steel barrels that remarkably retain their rich original browned finish, elegantly juxtaposed against the beautifully figured, finely checkered walnut half-stocks terminating in domed steel pommels with lanyard rings. The side-action locks, gracefully curved hammers, and sweeping trigger guards are enhanced with intricate, varied scrollwork engravings alongside a subtly case-hardened finish, showcasing the maker's meticulous attention to detail. Historically significant and mechanically robust, both weapons bear clear Saint-Étienne proof hallmarks and are prominently signed on the top of the barrels with "Prebat - Paris" alongside the inscription "Fni par Prebat Breveté à Paris". Measuring 35 cm in total length, these magnificent sidearms offer a tangible connection to the refined martial aesthetics of the era. The item is in good condition.
