Description

A Magnificent Cased Pair of French Percussion Pistols by Bady à Paris, mid-19th century. An exquisite cased pair of French percussion pocket pistols by Bady à Paris, dating to the mid-19th century, exemplifying the refined craftsmanship of Continental gunmaking. Each pistol features a cylindrical barrel (caliber 13.6 mm) on patterned steel, elegantly decorated with gold-inlaid geometric diamond motifs and the maker's signature "Bady à Paris". The steel box-lock actions are finely chased with elaborate foliate scrollwork, matching the engraved hammers and trigger guards. Polished walnut grips are deeply fluted and carved. Measuring approximately 22 centimeters in overall length. The pair is housed in an English fitted wooden presentation case - likely an associated or custom-ordered addition for an English owner- lined with rich purple velvet and bearing a circular brass lid escutcheon engraved "G.T. LOCK / CHESTER". The compartmentalized interior retains a handsome suite of period accessories, including an embossed copper powder flask with foliate motifs, a steel pincer-type bullet mold, a turned wooden cap container, and a brass-mounted loading ramrod. The case measures approximately 32 x 19 x 6 cm. The item is in good condition.
