Description

A French Model 1886/1915 "Rosalie" Lebel Bayonet with Brass Hilt. This example of a French Model 1886 bayonet, traditionally known by the affectionate moniker "Rosalie," stands as a hallmark of French infantry equipment during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Engineered specifically for the Lebel rifle, this specimen is characterized by its exceptionally long and slender cruciform blade, forged from tempered steel to provide superior structural integrity for thrusting maneuvers. Distinct from many standard variants, this piece features an ergonomic hilt cast in solid brass, a characteristic associated with specific production batches before the wider transition to white metal alloys. The steel crossguard is equipped with a muzzle ring and a spring-loaded locking mechanism designed for secure attachment to the rifle barrel. The bayonet is marked C & P on the blade, which is a known but unidentified private contractor marking. Accompanied by its original tapered steel scabbard, the weapon reflects the utilitarian elegance of French Third Republic ordnance. Measuring a total length of approximately 65 cm. The item is in good condition.
