This exceptional pair of percussion target pistols, dating to the mid-19th century, represents the example of European competitive marksmanship and firearms artistry during the Romantic era. The pistols are characterized by their heavy octagonal barrels, which exhibit a beautiful and intricate Damascus twist pattern and are fitted with fixed blade front sights. The percussion locks, hammers, and breech tangs are profusely decorated with fine foliate scroll engraving, reflecting the sophisticated decorative aesthetic of the period. The half-stocks are fashioned from finely figured and polished walnut, featuring deeply fluted grips and steel pommel caps terminated with elegant turned finials. Functional design elements include robust steel trigger guards with integrated finger spurs for a stabilized grip and inlaid white metal escutcheons protecting the barrel wedges. With a bore diameter of approximately 14 mm and a total length of roughly 33 cm designed, these pistols were for superior precision and balance. The item is in good condition.
