Description

A Fine Georgian Silver and Niello Mounted Kama Dagger, Russian Empire, 1891. This exceptional Georgian kama dagger represents a refined example of Caucasian martial craftsmanship from the late nineteenth-century Russian Empire. The weapon features a double-edged steel blade with triple fullers on each side, paired with a hilt fashioned from a uniquely figured natural material, stained bone, secured by silver rivets with decorative bosses. Its scabbard is bound in black leather and fitted with a silver fittings, both meticulously decorated with traditional niello foliate scrolls and geometric borders against a engraved ground. Of significant interest to collectors are the clear markings, including the date "1891" etched onto the hilt fitting and a distinct line of Georgian script on the reverse of the scabbard's silver locket. The silver components bear the Imperial Russian "84" zolotnik hallmark, denoting the purity of the metal and the piece's official provenance. Measuring approximately 43 cm in total length, this dagger is a testament to the high-status ornamentation favored by the regional elite of the Transcaucasian frontier.
