Description
A Fine Early 19th Century English Double-Barrel Box-Lock Flintlock Pocket Pistol, Signed London. This fine early nineteenth-century English box-lock flintlock pocket pistol represents a classic personal sidearm of the Georgian era, featuring a robust all-steel construction with side-by-side double barrels. The turn-off barrels are designed for breech-loading and characterized by octagonal breeches that transition gracefully to round muzzles. The central box-lock frame is meticulously decorated with deep-etched foliate scrolls and trophies of arms, prominently featuring a central oval cartouche on each side inscribed with the signature "LONDON." The integrated steel grip is similarly embellished with intricate engraving, continuing the decorative program across the curved handle and the underside of the trigger guard, which features a panoply of arms motif. This specimen is equipped with two independent flintlock mechanisms, each with its own cock and frizzen, allowing for consecutive firing in a compact format intended for the protection of travelers. Measuring approximately 15 cm in total length with a bore diameter of roughly 8.8 mm, the pistol retains crisp mechanical details and a pleasing aged steel patina typical of well-preserved early nineteenth-century European firearms. The item is in good condition.
