Description

A Fine and Rare Georgian Silver, Filigree and Niello Mounted Kama Dagger, 19th century. This exquisite 19th-century Georgian kama is a rare and masterful example of Caucasian martial art and silversmithing from the Russian Imperial era. The dagger features a robust, double-edged steel blade with a deep central fuller and a tapering point. Both the hilt and scabbard are entirely encased in silver, demonstrating the superior craftsmanship of regional artisans who combined several complex decorative techniques. The hilt and the obverse of the scabbard are densely decorated with intricate silver filigree (fine wirework), raised silver bosses, and niello scrolling foliate motifs set against a stippled ground. The reverse side of the scabbard features delicate niello foliate scrolls and floral patterns. Of significant historical interest is the reverse of the scabbard’s, which bears a prominent and clear inscription in Georgian script, likely identifying the original owner or the craftsman. Measuring approximately 43 cm in total length when sheathed, this prestigious dagger serves as a striking symbol of status and the refined military heritage of the Transcaucasian region. The item is in good condition.
