Description

A Fine and Ornate 19th-Century Toledo Gold and Silver Inlaid Replica of the Legendary "Tizona" Sword. This impressive 19th-century Spanish sword, crafted in the renowned armory center of Toledo, is an exquisite replica of the "Tizona," the legendary blade attributed to the medieval hero Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, famously known as El Cid and Cid Campeador. Mentioned prominently in the 12th-century epic Cantar de Mio Cid, the original weapon is preserved as a national treasure in the Cathedral of Burgos, the birthplace of the hero. This nineteenth-century homage is forged from steel and features masterful gold and silver inlay work, utilizing the intricate damascene technique characteristic of Toledo’s historic craftsmen to create elaborate geometric and foliate motifs across the hilt and scabbard fittings. The hilt is distinguished by a pierced openwork pommel and an ornate crossguard with broad, curved quillons, all lavishly decorated with precious metal ornamentation. Accompanied by its leather scabbard, which is mounted with a matching gold and silver-inlaid steel locket and chape, the sword measures approximately 97 cm in total length. The item is in Excellent condition.
