Description
A Extra Rare Prototype Winchester Model 1873 "Spanish Model" Lever Action Musket, USA, 1879. This extremely rare Winchester Model 1873 lever-action musket is a significant historical prototype assembled on April 19, 1879, specifically to fulfill a prospective military contract with the Spanish government. Known among specialized collectors as the "Spanish Model," this variant represents one of the scarcest production runs in Winchester's history. According to James Gordon in Winchester’s Model of 1873: A Tribute, Vol. II, only 84 units were ever manufactured. With a mere five examples known to survive today. The firearm features a full-length round steel barrel and a characteristic musket-length walnut stock secured by two steel barrel bands. The barrel retains the standard Winchester Repeating Arms markings, featuring a two-line address and King’s patent dates, while the upper tang is struck with the model designation and the lower tang displays the serial number 33795. The metalwork exhibits a natural aged patina, complemented by a loading elevator and original iron sights. The total length of the musket measures approximately 124 cm. The item is in good condition.
