Description
A Dagger "KAMA" with scabbard, Silver and Niello, Russian Empire, Georgia, circa 1900. This fine example of a Caucasian kama from the Russian Imperial era, originating from Georgia circa 1900, features a robust double-edged steel blade constructed with distinctive fullers designed to provide both structural integrity and balance. The hilt is fashioned from polished dark horn, firmly secured by traditional silver rivets that terminated in raised, niello-decorated domed bosses. Stamped hallmark "84" on silver fittings. Housed in its leather-bound scabbard, the weapon is distinguished by its elaborate silver fittings, both extensively ornamented using the regional niello technique to depict complex, trailing foliate scrolls framed by finely etched and beaded borders. Of particular historical interest, the reverse of the silver locket bears distinct, hand-inscribed Georgian script, likely denoting a former owner, alongside small stamped hallmark visible near the suspension ring. Measuring approximately 55 cm in total length when fully sheathed, this dagger stands as a striking testament to the sophisticated martial artisanship of the Transcaucasian region. The item is in good condition.
