A Dagger KAMA, silver and niello, Russian Empire, Georgia, 1882. This imposing Caucasian kama dagger, originating from Georgia during the Russian Imperial era, represents a significant example of regional craftsmanship from the late nineteenth century. The piece features a characteristic double-edged steel blade, meticulously etched at the forte with the date 1882 and inscriptions in Georgian script set within deep longitudinal fullers. The hilt is composed of dark grip scales secured by silver domed rivets, with the pommel and bolster extensively decorated in fine niello work, a technique synonymous with the master silversmiths of the Caucasus. The accompanying scabbard consists of a wooden core bound in dark leather, further enhanced by a substantial silver fittings. These silver mounts are adorned with elaborate foliate niello patterns and decorative geometric friezes, bearing the standard Russian "84" silver hallmarks. Measuring 61 cm in total length, this weapon reflects both the martial utility and the decorative prestige associated with high-status Georgian cold weaponry of the period.
