Description

A beautiful Indian Silver-Inlaid Talwar sword with European-Style Inscribed Blade, 18th/19th Century. This refined 18th to 19th-century Indian Talwar, featuring a curved steel blade is decorated with imitation inscriptions that were used on 16th-century European blades. The characteristic steel hilt is elaborately decorated with silver koftgari, depicting a dense arrangement of flowering plants and scrolling foliate motifs across the crossguard, quillons, and large disc pommel. The weapon is housed in a vibrant green velvet-covered wooden scabbard, beautifully accented with gold-toned metallic braid along its seam and an integrated suspension loop (the scabbard is probably a later one). Measuring approximately 93 centimeters in length, this talwar stands as a significant example of Indian bladesmithing and decorative metalwork from the late Mughal or colonial periods. The item is in good condition.
