Description
A 19th Century Algerian Miquelet-Lock Musket (Moukhala) with Inlaid Stock and engraved barrel. This distinguished 19th-century North African musket, traditionally known as a Moukhala, represents a masterwork of Algerian craftsmanship, particularly associated with the Kabyle region. The dark hardwood stock is profusely decorated with an intricate arrangement of bone inlays, featuring traditional geometric silhouettes and the symbolic dot-and-circle motif characteristic of the Maghreb artistic tradition. Its sophisticated miquelet-lock mechanism is wrought from steel, exhibiting fine engravings. The exceptionally long iron barrel is elaborately engraved with scrolling foliate and geometric patterns and is secured to the stock by multiple chased brass bands. The piece is completed by a characteristically flared butt with a decorative metal heel plate and measures approximately 182 cm in overall length with a bore diameter of 16.3 mm. The item is in good condition.
