Description
Extra rare Indian armor, Sikh warrior order Dal Khalsa, Nihang or Akali, early 18th century. Forged of riveted rings set with forged steel plates in the characteristic pattern, with applied, profiled closures. The armor plates are painted blue. Defects in chain mail due to old age. The Nihang (also spelled as Nihung lit. "Crocodiles") or Akali (lit. "Immortals"), also known as Dal Khalsa, is an armed Sikh warrior order originating in the Indian subcontinent. Traditional Nihang dress is known as Khalsa Swarupa. This comprises full attire of navy blue selected by Guru Gobind Singh after conflicts with Vazir Khan. Probably the blue color of the armor is associated with these historical events. A very rare collector's item. length 51 cm.
